A beautiful day at the Academy 5.29.10 and just one tooth lighter!

Shelly and Rene tied the knot on Saturday, amid the swelter and bloom at the Naval Academy. Newly commissioned as an Ensign along with his groomsmen, and one new Marine, Rene fretted right up until the very end.

So many guests from around the country came in to celebrate with them, even Shelly’s father, when told he was to wear his uniform (5 years after the retire date) trimmed down a whopping 40 pounds to get into the groove.  So much excitement in this wedding, Shelly scarcely controlling a smile every time she saw Rene, the new Ensigns and lieutenants studying the regs so they can properly wear their ribbons and citations, to the impromptu tooth extraction of our ring bearer Stephen, who magnificently bore up to the use of a leatherman to yank that sucker out.

A gorgeous sunset outside of the Annapolis Westin, gave a simply wonderful picture for the family to look back on for a long time. I really do like taking those smooching pictures, so much life and expression in a kiss. I explained to one couple, who sheepishly wondered where this picture could be hung, that every time someone sees this picture, an explanation is sure to follow. That explanation celebrates Shelly and Rene, all our new officers (bring them home safe, every single one please) and a moment when a kiss was the biggest thing on their mind.

Congratulations Rene and  Shelly:
