The Luckiest Wedding ever! Bridget and Rick 8-14-2010

Small surprises will always come about on even the most carefully planned wedding day. Some were carefully planned; Ricks gift to Bridget of a lovely charm bracelet filled with places they had been to in their first year together and wrapped in the paper of her very first gift to him. **Note to Brides and Brides to be, and aw what the hell, all women in general…when men save stuff like that..Don’t give us a hard time about it, we DO have a plan in mind!** Bridget’s Grandfathers pocket watch was a nice planned surprise for Rick as well, ditto the nice weather, in a city where a breeze in August is reason to cheer, the low temp was a blessing. Other surprises are well, not as much hoped for; Timelines that get pushed back, hairstyles that don’t always suit the recipient, hotel printers that can’t print out the toast/speech (I happen to like hand written better myself). Certainly some are in the realm of, “You can’t be serious”  Hotel fire at the Willard, thankfully nobody hurt, caused a bit of a crunch at the JW Marriott, who I must comment were absolute troopers when it came to accomodate guests from both the Willard (other bride) and the National Press Club – Bridget.  I guess the line in Wedding Crashers was correct, “Everybody wants to be part of the magic”.

Needless to say, a bit of a twist on events from first dance song delivery to the content of the toasts. Our Groomsman, Tap, husband of the sister of the groom, waxed poetic in the toast  that: -paraphrasing here-  “It said that  rain on the wedding day is good luck, so certainly with any misfortune that could occur on your wedding day; rain, earthquake, fire in the electrical subbasement at the Willard Hotel. Your marriage is stronger because the disaster or misfortune has occurred on the happiest of days” “To start amidst misfortune is to strengthen the ties that bind because difficulty can be overcome by happiness” , so between the rain and heat, much over from the day before, this  little bump in the road guaranteed that this would be the, Luckiest wedding ever!”

Hey, I said paraphrase!

Enjoy
